What we looked at

Four columns,
one score

the full method →

01Growth

Length and density assessed from fixed macro photographs at weeks four, eight and twelve against each tester’s own baseline. Half of the total score.

02Formula

The full INCI list read line by line. Prostaglandin analogues are declared openly and cap this column — they work, and they carry documented side effects.

03Tolerance

Daily diaries covering stinging, redness, lid dryness and any change in iris or lid colour. A withdrawal for irritation is heavily penalised.

04Cost

Not the shelf price but the real one: how long a tube actually lasted in daily use, converted into pounds per month.

Qualash Advanced Eyelash Serum bottle

Qualash Advanced Eyelash Serum

Qualash · 3.5 ml · peptide complex, biotin, panthenol

The strongest twelve-week result we recorded from a formula with no prostaglandin analogue in it. Density moved first, at roughly week five, and length followed; by the end of the trial the inner corner had filled in on 19 of our 24 testers. Nobody withdrew over irritation, and the 3.5 ml tube outlasted every other small-format serum on the panel.

UKLASH Eyelash Serum bottle

UKLASH Eyelash Serum

UKLASH · 3 ml · six-peptide complex, biotin

Britain's most searched lash serum, and it earns the position rather than inheriting it: second on growth, first on handling. The brush is fine enough to lay a single clean line along the lash root, which matters more than it sounds when you are applying at 11pm. Slower to start than the winner, and the tube runs out sooner.

GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum bottle

GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum

Grande Cosmetics · 2 ml · isopropyl cloprostenate

The serum most often discounted into a British shopping basket — LookFantastic and Boots rarely leave it at full price for long. Growth was consistent and the brush is well made. The prostaglandin analogue is the only thing separating it from a podium place, and it is the reason the safety column is capped.

RevitaLash Advanced bottle

RevitaLash Advanced

RevitaLash Cosmetics · 2 ml · contains a prostaglandin analogue

The beauty-editor default, and the highest raw growth figure anywhere on this page — visible change arrived by week three. It is also the clearest illustration of the trade-off the ranking is built around: two testers reported lid dryness and one a persistent itch, and at roughly £35 a month it is the costliest routine here.

  • Contains a prostaglandin analogue
  • Fastest visible change
  • Most expensive per month

M2 Beaute Eyelash Activating Serum bottle

M2 Beauté Eyelash Activating Serum

M2 Beauté · 5 ml · MDN complex

The department-store option, and the longest-lasting bottle in the group at five to six months — which quietly turns a punishing shelf price into a mid-table monthly cost. Growth was steady rather than dramatic. The MDN active belongs to the prostaglandin family, whatever the counter tells you.

XLash Eyelash Serum bottle

XLash Eyelash Serum

XLash · 3 ml · peptides, panthenol

A dependable middle of the table, bought mostly through Amazon UK. The growth figure is modest, but the condition of the lash line improved on almost every tester — less breakage, more shine. If heavy mascara has been doing damage, that matters more than a headline growth claim.

RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum bottle

RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

RapidLash · 3 ml · contains a prostaglandin analogue

The pharmacy staple: on the shelf in Boots and Superdrug, frequently under £25, and the cheapest way in Britain to buy prostaglandin-driven growth. That is also why it sits here — a mid-table result carrying a top-table risk profile. Accept the risk and there are stronger formulas; reject it and there are safer ones.

Sweed Lash Serum bottle

Sweed Lash Serum

Sweed · 3 ml · peptides, hyaluronic acid

A Cult Beauty regular, beautifully made and genuinely pleasant to use, with a result that reads as conditioning rather than growth. It belongs in a routine where lashes are thinning from extensions or heavy mascara, not one aimed squarely at length.

LiLash Purified Eyelash Serum bottle

LiLash Purified Eyelash Serum

LiLash · 2 ml · contains a prostaglandin analogue

Sold on the promise of one stroke a night and a tube that lasts, and the week-twelve figure was genuinely strong. What it does not do is justify the price: two tubes to complete a full course makes it one of the most expensive routes to a result on this page, with the same caveat as the rest of its family.

The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum bottle

The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum

The Ordinary · 5 ml · multi-peptide blend

The most searched-for lash product in Britain and the smallest gain on the panel — both of those are true at once. At around £6 a month it costs less than a fortnight of the winner, it works on brows as well, and it produced a small but real improvement in fullness. The sensible first serum if you have never used one.

Before you buy

Common
questions

How long before I see anything?

Four to six weeks for density, eight to twelve for length. Lashes grow on a cycle of roughly three months, so a serum can only work on the hairs entering their growth phase while you are using it — which is why every product here was judged at week twelve rather than week four.

What is a prostaglandin analogue, and should I avoid it?

It is the class of active — isopropyl cloprostenate, MDN and their relatives — that drives the fastest results and also carries the documented side effects: lid darkening, dryness, and in rare cases a permanent change in iris colour. We do not ban them, but we cap the formula score and label every product that contains one.

Do I have to keep using it?

Yes. Every serum on this page maintains a result rather than fixes it; lashes return to their own baseline over two to three months after you stop. That is why cost per month, not shelf price, sits in the scoring.

Can I use one with lash extensions or contact lenses?

With extensions, yes — apply to the natural lash line, not the bond. With contact lenses, take them out first and wait fifteen minutes. If you have glaucoma, are on eye-pressure medication, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to a pharmacist before starting anything in this category.
